Welcome to the forum.
I've not seen a hand cranked grinder as big as 8", doesn't mean they don't exist......but, I'd consider making a treadle driven grinder for a stone that size. Lot of extra momentum compared to a 4" grinder and they can be a bit of a problem if you fail the coordination test.We don't know how lucky we are......

Hand cranked grinder able to take 8"wheel
I would imagine you could fit an 8" wheel on most vintage grinders, I had one on mine for a while.
Don't buy a new hand grinder, trust me.Cheers,
Eddie

There's three on ebay (oz) at the moment ... one in mandurah ... all say "local pickup" but that doesn't guarantee they won't post.
If someone wants the mandurah one, I could pick it up for them + send on ... god knows I need to get posting stuff.
Actually ... looking at it ... I went out and picked up the breast drill I have ... I thought they were the same brand, but no.
However ... a breast drill might make for a good grinder project ???
One cog has 12 teeth, the other 36.
... maybe not so good ... my hand grinder turns at 12:1 ratio.
Cheers,
Paul

This one is local to me. Could pick up and post to you if need be.
I would ask the measurement from the centre of the wheel to the cast leg that rests on the bench. If its greater than 4 inches then you re in business.
Other good questions i've found are does it turn freely and also are they willing to take off the existing wheel to decrease weight for postage.

Wow I sort of want that. Lovely machine. Henry Boker made amazing tools, including my razor. Perhaps a bit much for a hand-cranked grinder though - you'll be adding at least $50 for a tool rest.
I found my grinder by putting up a post in the "wanted to buy" section. I recommend the same to OP if he or she is still looking.Cheers,
Eddie
