    Default Small hand Drill.

    Hi,

I nearly bought this hand Drill today,
but one of the jaws was chipped.
Does any one know any info on this Drill?
I could not see any markings on it.

Wow. That's a neat drill. No info on it in my head, alas.

Martin, it looks like a cheap version of one invented by Camille Contal, discussed in this article. https://nzvtcc.org.nz/wordpress/wp-c...ll-article.pdf

    Cheers,
    Geoff.

    Default Small Hand Drill

    Hi Geoff,

    What an interesting article,
If the Drill is still there I may try and
get it to see if there is any ID on it.

    Martin.

Martin, you might find something under the rust.

    Cheers,

    Default small hand drill

    Hi Geoff,

Got the drill for next to nothing.
I cleaned it up and there is a marking on it.
I found one on the net which is by Camille
Contal and is the same as mine. It reads
Pat Apl'd for Made in USA. The one on the
net is up for sale at $100.00 . IMG_20230908_100555.jpgIMG_20230908_100604.jpgIMG_20230908_100626.jpg

    Hi Martin,
a good buy, maybe it predates Contal's US patent of 1924?

    Default Small hand drill

    Hi Geoff,

I was thinking that the Drill I got
was by Camille Contal but what you are
saying is it may not be. The Jaws of the
drill are damaged so I was thinking about
putting in some new jaws. How would I
Know what size they are and would I be
able to get some new jaws?

    Thanks Martin.

    Martin,
I meant that because yours says "Pat Apl'd for" it could have been made prior to the granting of the 1924 patent that I linked to. In many cases the actual tool is not exactly as depicted in the patent drawings.
In regard to the chuck you may find jaws compatible from some other small US made hand drill? Maybe pull it apart and take some measurements.

    Cheers,
    Geoff.

    Default small hand drill

    Hi Geoff,

    Thanks for the info,
I will try and find an old broken
drill at the same place I got this
one. It would be great to get it
working again as it is quite smooth
to use now it is cleaned and greased
    up.

    Thanks Martin.
