While my previous reply, stating Derek was wrong, was tongue in check - I've since re-read the thread and note that Derek IS wrong. Derek's North Bros No. 1630A is a single-speed drill.

The No.1530 does have the same "continuous motion" features of the larger Yankee drills.

The bigger No.1545 Yankee drill is two speed, but also came in a single speed version - the No.1540 (see the catalogue cut in my previous post). And the breast drill version, the No.1555, also came in a single speed model - the 1550.

Not sure why you chose to take a dig at my post. I attempted to respond the actual questions asked in the original post, as I find this more helpful than going off on a tangent providing unrequested advice that does not answer the question.

So what if it was last produced more than 20 years ago? You did not take that dig at the other posts here with even older drills suggested. It will probably still be working fine in 100 years.

So what about the price - it was not listed as a concern in the original post.

By the way I expect the price is even higher than that for good pre-owned examples. See Search Results – Jim Bode Tools for example sold prices and better photos.

While you're waiting for the "deal of a lifetime", take a hard look at the Makita cordless.
I have a 6722D model at 4.8VDC & 220 rpm. It's old now, came in a case with a great range of bits.
No screaming hell but absolutely the right speed for doing insults to wood carvings and house works.

I believe it was intended to be tongue in cheek. The price of these is pretty extreme Also, the number available is ...low

I collect antique tin robots. Things made in the 1950's in Japan. Rare as hens teeth. These drills come up even less often!

    my sincere apologies

my response was intended to be tongue-firmly-implanted-in-cheek. It was not intended to be interpreted as a dig at you personally.

If I've offended you I'm sincerely sorry
