    Default Hand drill usage

    Hi all,
On the weekend I picked up a millers fall no 2 hand drill. It is in reasonable condition but missing the side handle. I imagine I could make one quite easily but I got to thinking when and how would you actually use that handle, it seems you would need 3 hands?

I have a couple of little egg beaters and yes I agree the person that designed them obviously had a problem. Don't think I have ever really used it while drilling. They're great for drilling small holes when you don't want to go too far too fast and pop out the other side of whatever you're making. Love the old Miller Falls gear. I have a block plane and did have a No7 jointer, beautiful plane, only sold it to get a Lie Nielsen No7.

Sometimes, when you want to drill a hole horizontally - the drill, not you - the end of the drill handle can be supported on your tummy while your left hand holds the side handle.
That's how I do it anyhoo............
