Funny you should ask, yes there were brass saws, bronze and copper too.. the Egyptians used hardened copper saws to cut the stone for the pyramids, they used abrasive grit in the saw cut ( probably sand :) ) and plenty of man power.
In more modern times, copper saws have been used in salt mining and I think some ice saws were copper (?) . I'm sure I can find links if you are interested... :)
