Default Hand Saw Screw Caps Wanted

I am doing up a Tyzack Nonpareil 26" hand saw (the one with the elephant emblem ) and looking to buy screw caps for it. The couple I have are solid brass with 5mm thread, 15mm diameter heads and the handle is 25mm thick. Closest I have found so far are only 10-12mm diameter heads so if anyone has any to sell, or can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate hearing from you.

    Thanks, GarySaw Screw Cap.jpg

Best bet is someone has an old saw you can get bolts from. Second best would be this.

Thanks John. The woodworks.com screws only go to maximum 20mm thick handles and heads are 10.75, so will see if any members have old spare parts.

    Cheers, Gary

Search for Sex bolts or Barrel nuts. There are ones on Google that have 15mm heads but they seem to be from OS suppliers.

Gary, just a small point - the Woodworks screws have 12.6mm depth of the barrel nut & 16mm for the screw. That would fit a 25mm thick handle with 3mm of thread in the nut, but it's typical to sink the heads in a shallow countersink, so in fact they are plenty long enough, but the heads are way too small, as you pointed out. They are also "brass coated steel" and pretty rough-looking customers to boot (yuk!).

If dong up an old saw, the very best solution is an old matching bolt & nut, but you might be still searching this time next year, unless someone has a genuine article & is willing to part with it. See how you go, & if you can't get a 'real' one, drop me a PM & I can make you a reasonable facsimile of your existing bolts.

Beats me where all those missing handle bolts are - probably in some other dimension along with all the missing odd socks.....

    Cheers,
    IW

Missing socks? I always thought that once the washing machine had accumulated sufficient lint, it created a new sock.

    Kind regards,

Good advice. Local tip shops have hundreds of old saws just waiting. Worth a look.

    Cheers

    Graeme

PS: google just infromed me that in poncy areas tip shops are known as "resource centres".
