    Default Hand Saw teeth

Now that I ventured into this section and spent next months housekeeping money on the brass nuts and brass back, I guess i will have to do a hand saw 101 class.

I see WouldWood has put up an address where i can buy the blade steel. its head office is on the Gold Coast too.

Now, my question is how does one cut the teeth or will iIhave to make a grandmother one just for show.

    Hi Star,

I doubt you will have any problems cutting the teeth, there are lots of different ways
that it can be done. I plan to write up a bit if a blurb in the next few weeks.

I would be interested, in hearing how you get on with that steel supplier, remember to ask for 1095 spring steel 20 thou

    Regards
    Ray

Piece of steel or brass threaded rod ,what ever pitch IE 16 threads per inch ,12 threads per inch can be used for a guide .
I've read some using a hacksaw blade ,but it might wreck the file if you rub the file across it particularly if its a HSS one.

    Thanks to both of you.

I will see the steel merchants on Tuesday and let you know. Thanks for letting me know which type.

I have a friend who is an Engineer, an ex tool maker and a pretty smart person. In fact have two friends, both with an Engineering degree but in different areas of engineering.

Fortunately, both have an intense interest in wood work although one has more passion for fixing the old machines up and getting them working properly and the other for what I can see has more interest in aquiring bigger and better machinery.

I think his philosophy is " He who dies with the most machines and tools, wins. "

ps. I wonder who that might be?

No luck at Global Metals. They do not stock it at the Gold Coast or Brisbane office, even though it is listed on their web site.

I will keep looking, have a few more people to ask before I give up with the Coast.
