I couldn't make it because it was in mexico, but Clinton is a top bloke and did my shopping for me

He got me quite a few chisels and a complete Carter 78.

Now I just have to sit back patiently and wait for them to arrive.

    Cheers, Jack

Got along there meself with young Josh, both wore our caps & flew the forum flag

Very cheap day for me, came home with a Popular Mechanics mag from April 1946. Did you know that more doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette? Now, you do

Only other forumite who made themselves known was Eastie (Mark), looking for a decent pair of fencing pliers.

A few enquiries about the forum from stallholders.

Looked at drawknives and router planes, but just scored a lathe this week so my heart wasn't in it

Coffee & cake at Picasso's cafe with the bride & dorters after.

    Good day out.

    Cheers.................Sean

    Unhappy Bugger damnit

    G'day,

Sadly with my best laid plans to attend SWMBO tore them assunder for me thus I could not be there. And checking the Dool Drool website it looks like I missed the last sale for the year and have to wait until April!

I was told I had to get my office into the shed from out of the house by Sunday.

Well I've done that now dear and the temptation is great as my bench and everything else is only a few yards away. I can also play Halo online without her knowing, poke my head in here etc. haha

How am I going to survive that long without hand tools upon hand tools at mostly decent prices? Clinton offered to email me picks of rebate planes etc., but I missed his PM (thanks for the offer Clinton)

I'm waiting for Jack E to send me his email addy, so I can email some pics of his haul. A bloke at work got a bit of a fright when I asked if he could take a few pics, and started to pull out sharp bits of steel.

I was one of the fella's down at the end table going for the chisels... very well priced.
I wore my foiley and no-one said boo, and I didn't see any other forum cap wearers . A bit hard to see my cap when its on my head though.... gotta look up high and not down at the tables.

For myself I got a $20 Falcon-Pope 4 1/2 smoother... been looking for a cheapy for a while, so I'm happy. Couldn't find the moulding plane I'm after, a 7/8" Quarter round (casing), or the same in a nosing. One seller took great delight in telling me how he just sold his entire collection of woody moulding planes a few weeks prior to the sale! Bastard!
    Cheers,
    Clinton

It was good to meet Sean and Josh, but alas decent fencing pliers where nowhere to be seen. I did however get a good old set of toe-cutters....

Also, if anyone (OZ?) has or comes across a old "stump devil" drop me a PM as I'm still after one - they are on old bushie tool to pull stumps - similar to a high lift jack on steroids.

    Cheers,
    Eastie

Are they the same as the old "kanga" jacks, Mark?

Just curious, dad used to have one but now long gone, when the farm was sold. Bl00dy heavy bugger of a thing.

And which end do they light
The jack you are talking about could also be the Trewalla Jack, come in a variety of sizes and the big buggers lift railway carriages back onto tracks.

have no idea how an old tool sale became a jack thread, but.

This one I have allways known as a wallaby jack, it dose have wallaby stamped on it, which I had never seen before . No it is not for sale.

Thanks for posting the pic, Stringy, that's similar to what I remember seeing in the old shed at home.

Thats a trewalla jack, I attended an accident in NSW where a train had derailed and they had a big one, made out of red gum or similar, about 6' high, 18" square and took three big blokes to carry it.
Was impressive to watch moving a steel coal truck back on the rails.
I would suggest that 'Wallaby' is/was a manufacturer of the same product.
The Americans call them railway jacks.

A handy jack for replacing stumps providing you have plenty of room (no floorboards), I've two in the shed and one gets dragged out every now and again.
I think the rating is only about 5 ton but you get plenty of leverage and the action is fast compared to a screw jack. It is certainly a Trewella jack, I've not heard of the other names.
