Default This is why I use hand tools ...

I'm pretty sure a couple of swipes with a hand plane could have achieved what he was trying to do

He made that video to show one of the ways kickback can happen, but the monster got more out of control than he guessed it would.

I've used this video before to highlight how it might be possible for a hand to be accelerated to a speed where that sawstop device could still allow a digital amputation before it deactivated.

    You're dead right.
Karate chopping a stationary blade would still sting a bit.

    I plead idiocy!!

That sort of kickback is why my right thumb ended up on the blade, severing my tendons and chipping the bone.

    Coulda been worse!!

Thaaat's what he was doing? But he had his fingers wrapped around the handle of the pushblock.......

Highly informative video. Thanks for posting this warning to us all! Especially the slow-mo bit. I've had plenty of misses, but this shows that maybe I was a lot closer than I think to losing a finger.
Good things come to those who wait, and sail right past those who don't reach out and grab them.

I threw away all my push block like the one he was using. They come free with machines. I have made my own ones with plywood and rubber/sandpaper and my hand is always at least 8 inches from the blade.
The push block must allow one to have firm control of the workpiece.
I also have a set of GRRRippers. They work well.
