Handsaw identification please!
Hi all,
Found this handsaw sitting proud atop a pile of hard rubbish yesterday. Took it home and gave it a light sand to reveal some unexpected markings on the steel.
It measures 9Tpi and 22" across cutting length. Brass rivet reads "TRADE MARK KANGAROO"(as pictured) and blade logo reads "PATENT MACHINE GROUND" as well as "086" in a ribbon above kangaroo.
Slight bow from tip to tail as pictured but i assume this is nothing to worry about. And what is the function of the little step down with a notch at the tip of the top of the steel?
It is also missing one rivet and two of the threaded locking nuts, can you get replacement generic ones from anywhere or should i just cast some in bronze as I have access to a foundry?
Would I be right in assuming kangaroo brand as in Sorby? Any additional info would be appreciated,
Regards,
Lewis Allen

Looks like a Robert Sorby and Sons to me. What a great find! I've got one like that that belonged to my mothers uncle. Cleaned and sharpened and cuts like a beauty. Not nearly as good an etch as yours though. And what a great price!
Well done,
Virg.
PS. Some trade marks here, including Sorby. Trade Marks
