Stanley 10 1/2 Rebate Setup
I am currently renovating my grandfather's 10 1/2 rebate plane.
Anyone got any tips on setup .. and best use ?
I ask because the iron is marginally wider than the body, which makes me wonder what the setup is supposed to be.
To that end, how would one use this for rebates ? Just to clean up ? Or to make from scratch.
Info on the interweb is a little limited...

when set up the blade should just protrude from the side of the plane -- I do it by feel using my finger tips.
If the blade is set flush with the plane's side your rebate will step with each swipe and gradually get narrower.
If you find this is happening reset the blade so it protrudes a little further.
The plane can be used from the get go. Knife the cut line and align a batten with edge and use the batten to guide the plane.
Alternatively, you can sink a field using a plough plane to cut a slot and then use the rebate plane to sink the raise.
hope this helpsregards from Alberta, Canada
