I think you'll have to be very patient, indeed.
Mandy asked me to follow up in August, and the general feeling following this most recent conversation was that my order will be ready next month. I made my deposit at the beginning of November, which will make it about 11 months all told. Last I heard the HSS orders from the Melbourne WW show were back from heat treatment and being ground as we speak.

this is very good news.
I move to a new house in about a month and have been given the to build a dedicated wood room. A new set of chisels is just what I need to justify the little shed build. (They'll need an appropriate home)
I hope it is only a few weeks for you Dave. I've a feeling mine will still be a little way off.
All the best

Harold & Saxon Steel
Derek,
Thank you for the welcome and yes both of my sets have M2 steel and came unbelievably sharp. The bevel was hollow ground and in addition had a microbevel. I have been using both sets building some table I am making. One table is primarily paduak and the other two are primarily quarter sawn white oak. As all three table are Arts and Crafts the chisels are getting quite a workout. I did not touch the blades when I received them as I wanted to see how sharp they were right off. As well as being sharp I have yet had to even hone them. The edge on these chisels seems to be the equivalent of the Energizer Bunny in that it just keeps on going. I have attached a couple of pictures and I am sorry that they are not better.

I just received the LN Aus 2009 catalogue in the mail, and suddenly the H&S look not only like heirloom quality tools, but now look like extremely good value too. An equivalent set of LN A2 chisels with long handles is now more expensive that the Ultimax chisels!

Are you guys just infinitely more patient than I am, or have you received your orders? It's been 16 months I think, and I've had to buy a set of chisels to use in the mean time.
Funky, you're nearby, how are things at H&S?"Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."

H&S status
I ordered 2 additional long blade paring chisels and a set of oval bolstered pigstickers in late May /09. I checked in with Trent via email about a month ago and he expected my order to be ready by mid March (2010) so I am anxiously awaiting them.
I have no idea why it takes as long as it does and its a long time to wait for tools but based on my first set its definitely worth the wait. In fact I am contemplating ordering a third set.

Still waiting...
still looking forward to them...
I too purchased a set of Irwins to get me through....they work well enough...for now
I know it will be worth the wait but...
I would like them ASAP
I better have them before child #2 arrives in June or the funds will dry up real quick.
I'm sure they will be worth the wait.

Trent is moving his workshop again, he'll be shifting to Wheatvale, near Warwick QLD. He's still at his workshop in Canungra but has moved house to Warwick. He'll be at Canungra for a few more weeks (I think) then he's got the arduous job of getting everything moved. I'll be helping him get set up at the new place so I might know when he's back in action.
Those chisels take a long time to make. He has to get the steel, get the tang turned, mill the bevels, heat treat it, surface grind all six faces (which takes hours per face), grind the sharp edge (which also takes a long while), then hone it. Plus turning the handles, sanding and finishing then assembly.
I'm not sure it'd take 16 months but you get the idea

Thanks FC I'm patient, I would not want to stand in the way of a master toolmaker whose kudos is well deserved.
I'll get mine all in good time and I'm not going to pressure him.
Fine tools are an extension of the care and thought that the craftsman puts into them and dos'nt need external pressure for that would be sacrosanct.
I understand the pressure he must be under to deliver, but being the master toolmaker that he is, he will deliver on his terms & when the tool meets his expectations.

The pictures don't do them justice...
I had forgotten what they looked and felt like since the '08 show, but now that I have them in my hands it's all coming back. Simple, rugged and beautiful at the same time. They look so exquisite I wondering if I should even try to polish the backs, lest I ruin them.
I'll post pics this evening.

Mine should be just about ready. Been waiting a few months now.
