Thread: Need help with chisel info

Pretty sure it's a stone mason or brickies chisel

Hello Ian! So that's what kind of chisel it is huh? Cool, I didn't know that. Thank U very much for helping me to figure out what kind it is, it is very much appreciated! I hate to ask, but I could still use your help if possible. In order for me to truly find out the value so I can sell it, I also really need to know the brand name too, so that way I have alot better chance of finding it's worth when I go to research it on the net. I think whatever word it says on it probably is the brand but I can't quite make it out. It looks to me like it says J.FRISCH, but I know that can't be right, because when I google that name as being a brand name for chisels or any type of tool for that matter, it turns up nothing. Anyway if there is anyway that you can possibly read or make out what it says on it that would be great. And if you can't read it maybe you might recognize what brand it is just by looking at it, and or be able to tell me what it is worth/amount I can get for it. Looks like a stone masons chisel to me as well. Regardless of the brand I wouldn't think it would be worth more than a couple of dollars as a user or maybe a bit more to a specialist stonemason's tools collector. If you could find one.

So no matter what the type, brand, age, and condition it doesn't matter and it still wouldn't be worth more than a few bucks huh? Well I can't say that I'm not disappointed, because of course I am, but I'm just glad that I finally know once and for all. And if that's all it's worth then I will definitely keep it, because the sentimental value of it to me is worth a whole lot more than just a couple of bucks. I think it is a scutching chisel, used for masonry work, as others have said. It pre-dates the later ones that have replaceable combs inserted in the cutting end.

The name on the chisel is just as likely to have been the name of a previous owner as a manufacturer.

I just checked out Autonopedia briefly, But just in the few minutes I was on it, I could tell that it was very informative and should most definitely help me out quite a bit.
