    Default Help identify type of this No3

    Hello,
    I’m hoping for guidance on type and price for this No3 plane.
    I believe it is a type 3 but not sure, and not sure what to ask for it (going to sell)
    Thank you
    Colin

    Hi Colin;

    Identifying the “type” is only really relevant for pre-1933 US made Stanleys; at that point the changes Stanley made were to lower production costs, not to improve the use. The UK made planes started after Stanley had already launched themselves down the slippery slope.
    There isn’t really an agreed typing system for the UK Stanleys; I use THIS one as a guide which would put yours as a UK type 3, most likely 60’s era.

    As for value, it really depends on how you advertise and present it; this is not a collectable item but may prove to be an adequate user. Right now? $25 if I was feeling generous towards you; cleaned and sharpened $40-50. If you put it on Fleabay for $20 it will likely hit the $50 mark... if you include shipping. It could also sit at $20 with a single bidder or go for $150 between two bidders who don’t have a clue what they’re fighting over. The bidding game can be funny like that...

    Thanks Chief,

    I actually found that page but I guess I didn't look closely enough at the detail.
    Thanks for the guidance.
