Help identifying a saw
I managed to pick up a panel saw that has the attached medallion. I was hoping that someone might be able to provide me with some information on the saw maker/time of manufacturer/country of origin.
The medallion itself reads 'superior quality' and inside of this is a six pointed star with an 'o' or 'c' above it. Inside the star is a cross pattée. Surrounding the main star are a series of smaller dots.
Other than the medallion there are no other markings on the saw.
I have searched a few sites and havent seen anything even remotly similar. If someone could help that would be great.

Hi NWW,
it looks like the Carl Baier logo. Wich is funny, because I've yet to see a Carl Baier saw in Germany but you seem to have a few in Australia.
Find more info here:

Hi NWW,
Pedder has identified it already,
There appears to be a problem with their web site, but the home page works.

Hi Ray,
I seem to have found the new website for them here.
I have also attached a couple more photos - one of the saw overall and a second of the handle a bit closer up. Looking at the Disston saws it seems to be a similar design to their turn of century designs, but not really sure . . .

Hi NWW,
I don't think that's the same company, the link pedder supplied worked once for me then dissapeared...
Dating saws is a tricky business, so I could be completely wrong, but first impression is you saw is 1960's give or take.. The handle shaping and finish looks typical of that sort of date.
Here is the Handsaw page from Carl Baier's web site..
Regards
