help please lessons
Hi Folks
I live in the Ingle Farm in the northern suburbs of Adelaide I am wondering if there is any woodworkers out or close by that would be willing to show me how to use hand tools as I am having issues using power tools due to pain after the fact
I have started trying to use hand tools with limited success

I recommend joining a local Men'a Shed.
There should be one near by:

Also ... what sort of lessons are you looking for?
Youtube is very good for showing you 1/2 - 3/4 of what you want to know about something.
There are books out there that people could recommend ... with starter projects ...
or projects from Pop WW magazine website ... and all the others ... that you can see for free or download cheaply ...
Lost Art Press have The Joiner & Cabinetmaker ... buy the book or download it immediately ...
that follows the apprenticeship of a young boy and the projects he has to do as he learns ...
http://lostartpress.com/collections/...abinet-maker-1
or there's the standard aussie trade-school text by John Walton ... mentioned here (http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/...f-wood/5091680) and previously on WWF.
Cheers,
Paul

I have thought about the mens shed but I have nerve issues and the standing side it of it can end up in pain so that why I was hoping for some one on one lessons
I have watched the youtube but as I need to ask questions as I go the internet is useless I read everything I can but still most times I don't absorb it

Seriously
I'd contact the local mens shed
Ask if they have one or two handtool lovers/users
then ask if they would be willing to help you in your particular circumstances
the best that most of the lads at my local mens shed know is chisels are best used for opening paint tins especially the newly sharpened ones
But there are a couple of chaps who use and love handtools
They are also extremely helpful to the other chaps
Oh and they don't tend to do much in the mens shed except to help and advise, rarely make their own stuff there.
PS
we've just added a bench modification that will allow one member to use a bench whilst in his wheelchairLast edited by Sawdust Maker; 16th March 2014 at 09:27 PM. Reason: add PS

If you or a friend or family member can take & upload photos, then you could also have a go at somethin' ... take photos ... and ask here for feedback.
There's a heap of great knowledge among these blokes here.
And yeah ... like he said ... see how you go with the men's shed.

Should be someone out there that can guide you one on one with the use of hand tools.
At the very least use this site to ask specific questions for your upcoming projects. You have been a member here for a while and I am sure you would have seen some interesting variation to completing a task. At least I have.

Hi coffenup I live at Morphett Vale, would it be possible to arrange a Saturday or Sunday and I could come down and go through the basics of handtools with you
and there after you could call me on the phone or email with follow up questions, and even more one on one sessions, I am a cabinet maker by trade ( 40+ yrs ) so I can most likley answer most of your queries
