here is the filing video. I had a complex migraine two days ago and should've had the sense to not record a video, but I did. I may redo it later because I end up not very concise (well, ever, but worse the week after a migraine as far as organizing thoughts and verbalizing them - or thinking at the time it's a good idea to discuss stuff that really doesn't need to be included).

the important part of this is just the idea that you can bias pressure and rotate the file just a bit and end up using the corners of the teeth on the rounded edge to some extent instead of draw filing flat. Hopefully, you can see the 3d dust nature of the casting material piles when I show this.

The other side benefit of this is because the pressure is biased toward the edge of the teeth, the file teeth can be really dull and still remove a great deal of material. this is a part of the file - the corners - that never get worn out for this in regular use. that and especially, you can file inside the margin of the sole easily without rounding over the edges to the outside.

The downside is that the grooves are deep, but they're no worse than using a file and pinning it.

It would be hard to find any decent plane that can't be flattened in an hour. functionally.

keep the filing lines in the direction of the sole's length, though, at all times.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation and video. I am really grateful for your effort, more so since you did it in the shadow of a migraine.

I have taken a break from flattening the plane this week, but I will give it another go over the weekend and get it to where its functional. I tested it, and it was tending to put a decent amount of hog in the edge of the board (high in the middle). This could just as well have been my bad technique, but I was noticing it not making contact / cutting in the middle of the board which is probably right since the plane is high in the middle near the mouth.

I will report back with some further progress when I get it closer to flat.
