    Using some prices from the HNT web site you can get a set of 9 planes in ebony for $2405 (individually or as a set costs the same) and the Clenton bits (14 in all) would be somewhere around the $2600 mark (had to guess a few items), then add a premium for the matched wood. Looks like the auction fell way short.
