Default New hollows and rounds gift set

I have been meaning to make a post about these since Xmas but haven’t had an appropriate camera to take a shot of them all

My partner surprised me with a new set of moulding planes from HNT Gordon, this is a set of 10 with the 1 1/2” still being made, I have previously been surprised with Caviuna (Brazilian hardwood) made planes from Terry which were a moving fillister, dado planes, side rebates pairs, shoulder planes but this set tops the lot!

One of amazing staff at HNT made a box to house them (all but one so I’ll make another box to extend the storage options) so each moulding plane is held upright nice and snug including the skewed rebate and snipe bill planes. They’re made out of a limited sl quantity of Brazilian rosewood Terry had in stock as there was not enough Caviuna to match the existing planes but will compliment them nicely, then once the rosewood was depleted the remaining were made from macassar ebony to compliment the rosewood. All absolutely stunning

I can’t articulate correctly how special this set is to me and how I enjoy using them just on some test cuts but will enjoy future projects for me and my kids to learn how to use also. They’re absolutely stunning

I’m sure I’ll do more posts in future with them in use but for now I just had to show them with a group of like minded people that would appreciate HNTs work

Swapping macassar ebony for pau ferro (caviuna) is a huge jump!

Pau ferro for a while was sold here as a substitute for rosewood and then it fell off of the map. often sold in the US as "bolivian rosewood". It's pleasant.

macassar is a wonderful wood, but when it has a wrinkle in it as some rosewoods will have (not sure what they are), it's a female dog to plane right at the wrinkle!

Thanks for the replies, very lucky indeed im absolutely spoilt. Such a joy to use

The pics now highlight my inability to focus on the right area of the planes in some of the shots ha. The camera is a Nikon d90. New to me. Is a lot of fun to learn to use for projects and the upcoming F1 trip
