There are some very sought after and beautiful planes there; plus a Carter 54.
I've never seen so many 55's offered in one place before...Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

If that's a single person's collection, he/she didn't seem to have a theme; there are so many duplicates or apparent duplicates, though I'm not too sure of the auctioneer's ability to discriminate so there may be much more to it than meets the eye. I could not fathom why any of the paired the items are chosen to be presented together, none of the pairings makes much sense to me - is it just laziness on the part of the auctioneer or am I missing something crucial??
At least one error I spotted - two Stanley steel-sided rebates are listed as "bull-nose" but are clearly not (afaik, Stanley never produced a bull-nos in that style).
Apart from the raries, there seems to be a goodly number of decent users, but by the time you out-bid other keen types & pay postage, I wonder if there'll be any bargains?....
Cheers,IW

They’re Stanley 80’s; not 90’s. I think whoever wrote the blurb got confused with the listing number.

Theres a 24% buyers premium and GST. Be tough to get a bargain.
There are a few items I would bid on but I baulk at the buyers premium. Those were the droids I was looking for.

I was outbid on the Veritas router plane pretty quickly, yes when you add the 25% premium , and i didnt realise, the GST, and postage , probably labor cost for packaging, probably for the best.it is an amazing auction, hard to believe such a collection exists in Australia, in private hands.I have enough planes anyway, Ross

I think you may be surprised at how many collections exist. I am aware of somebody locally to me, who has allegedly 2000 planes, but I have not seen them and also I have lost touch as to his whereabouts for the moment to verify this. I know of one overseas collector of saws, who has around 6000!
One of the problems when these collection are sold off, possibly following the passing of the collector, is that unless the items are accurately documented, they will be many mistakes made as has already been observed by some of you in this thread.
GST, buyers premium and shipping are not to be ignored and the latter two can be very high. The chances of a bargain are remote and even a good buy becomes difficult to realise. It is really only the very valuable rarities that are worth chasing (assuming one is in that market) as the shipping cost can be disregarded: However, an extra percentage approaching 40% on the final purchase price should not be ignored! In fact the more I identify the pitfalls..........I don't think I will bother.

No it's not. Collectors know what they're in for when it comes to an auction - everyone that signs up does... It's more aussies are cheap and won't pay what others on earth will... Australia is a funny place. When you look at fakebook market place or grungetree you find sellers of old tools ask far more than the tool is worth and buyers won't won't pay what the world market says they're worth... There is a complete disconnect between the two. I.e. A basic moulding (not molding) plane is worth about 15 - 20 AUD... But when you see them for sale the price demanded is 50 or more. I can buy, including shipping, a complex moulding plane out of the UK for less than that... But it's also exacerbated by the buyer not wanting to pay more than 10...

I worked in Mirriwinni Queensland as a machinist offsider and the wall was covered with planes [lots of them probably 100 plus] all used for moulding.
