Fantastic job TS
I need you to pm me your address so I can send you some $ as I've cleared out my PM box. I'm assuming the price you gave earlier was excluding shipping?

Toolin their was not set price for batch 01 and you were generous and gave $40 per blade which will easy cover the cost of postal I think.
Please PM me your address and I will wrap and post your two 50 x 80 x 8 mm blades for next week.
Dj - I may need a few minutes on the slow speed grinder to clean up my four blades when I see you next.

Hi TS,
Looking good those blades. As you have kindly offered, would you mind doing the primary bevel on my blade please mate. If you have the time, of course. A 25 degree bevel will be just sweet. If not, no problem.
That way Groggy and DJ will know which blade NOT to put thumb prints onto and/or experimental weld onto.
Cheers
Pops

Picked up the blades this morning and got to have a chat with thumbsucker for a few minutes. Blades look very nice and I'll have a go at grinding one today. A bit of research shows a white wheel should be best though I may try a grey for hogging off some of the bulk. 25 degrees will be the first attempt.

Top work TS. They look awesome and cant wait to make a few woodies HNT style. Actually, I cant wait to make anything in the shed. Haven't had any shed time at all in the past months and it has turned into storage. Cleaning it out now though and getting the Death Star operational again my lord.....
Do you still have my address to post out mine?I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Good to see Groogy this morning.
martrix where do you life please PM me your address - are you going to DJ's Turnfest on the 16/12 or the Melbourne West BBQ on the 5th/01 - if you are I could give them to you then.
I look forward to peoples feedback. If it was not for everyone chipping in and contributing their knowledge and time this would never have happened. A big thumbs up to all of us.

Crikey!
I have been grinding since about 10:30 and stopped for lunch at 12:00. Tried both white and blue wheels, they seem about the same at cutting though the blue is cooler.
This is tough stuff. At one point I got some light straw discoloration but it should grind away as I remove the last of the bevel. Still about 1mm to go across the entire face of the bevel.
EDIT: Near the edge (0.5mm) these blades are heat sensitive. Very light touch required and it is very slow going.

Watching and waiting with bated breath. Hoping you guys have luck with your new blades (I'm sure you will).
I'm still dirty I didnt get in on the first batch, such is life, you had to be damn quick.
The biggest thumbs up to you Thumbsucker, without you this wouldnt have even started, or got off the ground. Good on you mate

I can hardly type after dealing with this blade
Almost there but still some ways to go with the bevel, I need to correct a high side, but otherwise nearly there. The back was reasonably easy to lap.
Recommendations:- Get the primary bevel ground for you if you can, this took me the better part of a day. Since it only costs about $5-$10 it is money well spent.
- Bevel the corners at the top of the blade, easy to do and takes the sharpness away from your palms whilst sharpening.
- If you don't have a white grinding wheel - get one.
- If using a Bluemax style wheel you will need to dress it often to remove the glaze, I found it built up quickly.

Hi Groggy,
Great stuff, it looks great and thanks for the tips. Why do you suggest a white wheel. I only have the std grey that came with my grinder and was going to rough the bevel with an angle grinder first. What do you think?
See you Wed TS

Hi Groogy you did a first rate job. These blades are D2 top of the line for hight carbon steel, so it should be expected it would be tuff to grind, lucky you only have to do it once.
The $5-15 per blade is a price for how much it would cost to get Rippon Grinding to grind them in their annealed state. I am considering for batch 02 that we will have the option for either a 25º/30º ground option by default for those who want it, or for those who want to grind your own you can get the blade cheaper.
