SHAVINGS ... from this playne or is that just a plain plane?Ramps

Hmm... very few block planes have gone for over $60, but then, very few have been in decent condition. Apart from this one... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Stanley-Plane...QQcmdZViewItem which must have been a dealer. Its hard, because users won't bid up prices, only dealers and the ignorant, and this listing is obviously aimed a t a user, not a dealer, so who knows!
My best guess is about $80.Cheers, Richard

I would be happy with $46, as I said. But I've honestly got no idea what to expect. My gut tells me no less than $60, but I could be proven quite wrong, and sent scampering with my tail between my legs!
Cheers,
GW
P.S. Jake - thanks for the other tips you gave. Good ones!Where you see a tree, I see 3 cubic metres of timber, milled and dressed.

Going on the time it has left and where it is sitting at the moment I would not be surprised to see it hit $80. Who knows $60 should see it out but logic doesn't seem to lom very large on a number of Ebay bidders.
John.

At the other end of the scale are listings like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Old-tools-Dec...QQcmdZViewItem
Couldn't even be bothered to spread the tools out on the floor so you can see what they are....Cheers, Richard

...I like going through those bins at the markets, hoping I'll uncover something nice.....but often all I end up with is just greesy hands.
I got outbid GW.... So, I got all competitive and kept upping my maximum bid......48, 50, 55, 62, 66 then gave up.....Somebody really wants it mate. Goodluck.

You did rather signal your intentions, so I am not surprised.
I always find there is no point in bidding early, snipe in the last 30 seconds or so with your highest bid. If it reaches your highest bid before hand, walk away.
Engaging in an early bidding war only drives the price up, no point.

A very nice price. I think you won there GW.

Yes, Pat, I'm pretty happy (final price was $76, for those who haven't looked). Those who guessed that it would go close to $80 were pretty right, it turns out.
A noble effort on Jake's part, I have to say. A good fight, but a 'Rob' from Victoria got in the final punch. Better luck next round.
I'll be fascinated to see what price the Stanley 4 and the Stanley 110 copy bring. I've honestly got no idea what to expect - and I don't have much to lose either.
For my money, the little experiment in honesty with the 60 1/2 has certainly not cost me anything (IMHO).
Cheers,
