Identify the tool.
Hi all,
My friend in NSW recently sent me a tool that he bought in SA. It's made of steel, brass, aluminium alloy, wood and there might even be a little bit of copper.
What do you think it might be? No prizes but clues may be available.
Geoff.

That would fit the criteria Rob, but not a Mosquito.
A Duke, if I post a photo it'll give it away, but here's a clue SA (South Australia) is significant and it has a name on it which refers to a Strongman.

Wow, that Ashby plane is nice, but not that. The tool came in a standard PO padded bag.

3 kg bag Ian, and you are correct that it's not a Titan chisel or Pope plane. Sorry Derek not by Henry Eckert. A bit more inspecting and I've ruled out the copper components, and have decided they are most probably brass. I thought someone may have picked up on the reference to a strong man.

Yeehar Ross, you nailed it. Hercules brace by W H Wylie & Co Hilton SA.
The chuck and ratchet housing is made of brass, nickel or chrome plated, the mounting for the head is aluminium alloy with a brass (bronze?) bush. The wooden handle has anti-split rings on either end which I initially took to be copper but have now amended to brass.
The first Hercules brace I've seen and a welcome addition to my Australian brace line up.
According to Google W H Wylie were taken over by Monroe in 1985. Hence the Monroe-Wylie shock absorbers found in a lot of our motor vehicles.
Any additional info on W H Wylie very welcome.
Cheers,
Geoff.

Not nearly as interesting as a Mosquito Geoff.
