Default Idiots guide to chisels needed

Ok .... I ma sure there is a thread in here somewhere but my searches did not reveal what I was after.

As a Noobie in this here tools and wood game can some one tell me / point me in the right direction / provide a link (phew) to the diffeences between chisels..... eg: bench chisel, skew, dove, etc.

I just dont know what I should get as my first and second purchase in terms of chisels in my new desire to become a woodowrker.

I like doing some carving of wooden spoons and I am keen to try and make some boxes and other beginner things such as wooden toys for my kiddies such as a train and a dolls house.

Thanks for all you help in advance,

    Spanner the chisel impaired.

    Hi Spanner.
The best background I have seen on chisels is from Bob Smalser over at Sawmill Creek.
He gives a very American perspective and mentions American brands but the background information is excellent.

There are many chisel threads on this forum as well and you can locate them easily with the search function.
    Happy chiselling

I'm currently reading "Popular Woodworking: Hand Tool Essentials" http://www.popularwoodworkingshop.com/product/1267/154
I borrowed it from the library, but I'm going to buy it, covers most hand tools.
