iGaging double square - dud or unlucky?
Hey folks,
I bought this iGaging double square and it's going to be mailed straight back to Timbecon - out of square and so much slop you'd think they put the wrong sized cutter in the mill - see pictures/vid below. It's also a pretty gritty adjusting nut/bolt, feels both permanently tight and never tight enough.
So, did I get unlucky, or are they just generally poor quality? Do I ask for a replacement, or a refund (and then add some more dollars for a PEC or a Starrett)? Would appreciate thoughts from anyone with iGaging experience.

That's not fit for duty.
Vesper Double Square is the benchmark. Made in Carrum Downs, Victoria, not slapped together in the PRC.Pat

I bought two iGaging units. Both returned as they were unfit for service.

I have a little 100 mm double square of theirs. It was accurate out of the box, but the machining of the nib which slides in the ruler groove was so rough that it never adjusted smoothly, and after time wore down such that it just won't grip any more. I can't bring myself to throw it away, but it is useless as a square.
Whilst it only cost $20, five coffees would have offered better value.
Having said that, I also own one of their digital verniers, and it's outstanding so don't think they're a wright-off as a brand, but in future I will stick to Starrett et.al. for squares.

Thanks everyone, looking pretty unanimous already.
So aside from the aforementioned Vesper and Starrett, what are some preferred brands for double squares? Seems very hard to find them in metric. Anyone have any experience with?

I also have a PEC double square, gives sterling service, so much so, I was asked to get the woodclub one as well.
Jim Davey has them for $65Pat

I have the adjustable square two piece set. Both of them are spot on and were out of the box. They adjust smoothly and lock up with out problems. They are probably the most reached for measuring tools in my shed. Behind the verniers maybe.
I also have the 300mm combination square. It locks up well and is square (also straight out of the box) but it has a slight machining floor in the rule that makes it a little stiff at one point but not bad enough for me to return it.
Sounds like I got lucky maybe.
