Interesting how many different ways human beings can dream up to do the same job!
I wonder why the maker elected to construct it that way, & not use the screws to close the jaws directly, like this: saw vise 2ed.jpg Saw vise 1ed.jpg
My guess would be to get enough clearance for deeper saws, but keep the pressure from the screws up close to the jaw line. Hard to tell by looking at it how well it worked, but as long as the jaws closed firmly on the saw, there's no reason why it shouldn't have. It Looks like it has sat outside for a while, & probably isn't working as well as it might've once, so it might be easier to start from scratch than try & resurrect this one, Paul......IW
