On my list of things to do one day is to purchase a couple of camping foam mattresses; 8-10mm thick in two colours. Cut out the tool shapes in one and glue it on top of the other.

I think there must be some kind of magical potion to make kaizenclone work, I can see the potential but it ain't easy!
I decided/was forced/relented and used the 'cubic' pre-cut foam on the very curvey shape of the pliers so, other than an extreme case of pixellating, I've made cutouts to keep them safe,

They're all good for cutting THROUGH the foam but useless to cut INTO the foam. The 'kaizenclone' requires you to cut into the foam and peel out enough layers to get the depth you want. I'll try again tomorrow after spraying the blade with dry PTFE or similar and see if that allows a smooth cut. The potential is definitely there but I was suspicious when I noted that none of the realkaizen youtubes show the actual cutting?
To give me a start point, I sharpened a wad punch, placed the foam and punch on an end grained block and thumped the punch with a BIG hammer ....I wonder if I'll ever find that punch again?

BUT, the problem with all of the lower layers being white is that any inaccuracy in cutting stands out like dog's ------ ...well, you know what I mean?

    Love the drawers

    Read from the begining

Had you not gone wirh the drawers i was going to offer an alteration on wheelinound's flip shaddow boards.

Backnin the 90ies inwad involvednin setting up a 'tool box' to go thru the pacific islands to assist in building in poorer locations. The tool box (one of a few) was a 20' sea container. We made a heap of modular cabinets.

One of the cabinets had an overhead section of 'slide out shaddow boards'. This had a heap of hand tools and some boards had tools on both sides. Had long thought inshould do similar..

If you're ever having a clearing sale I'll jeep an eye out for those drawers. They look sweet

I had thought of using the slide out peg/shadow boards under the bench but that really needs to be used for tools that I WILL use....

...2 are now used for hand planes and the third for marking out tools.

You might want to consider putting in some finger holes too. Without them every time you try to remove a tool you are jamming your fingers into the slender gap between the tool and the foam edge; after a while the foam is going to look a bit daggy.

Or use a magnet to lift the tools clear of the foam. (Assuming they are magnetic).

Good idea Tiff even though one look at the current state of my shed would suggest that I am well into 'daggy'! Wheelin' found a YouTube showing me how to do it ...but I've lost it so maybe he could find it again.....?

Hi Alan, they are stainless steel but I haven't actually checked if they are 300 or 400 series so magnetic or not?
