I love this guy. He used "Tulip Poplar". It looked easy to work compared to the Bunnings pine I practice on. Is that available here in Oz or is there something similar. And yes my tools are sharp

Masters sell Poplar TT , I don't know if it is the same as Tulip Poplar, it looked the same. They also have Red oak Boards and dowels last time I noticed which was a while back. I did a price comparison to Britton timbers and Mathews of the Oak , they sell White Oak , and the Masters price is a LOT more

No, Auscab, just for the record, 'Tulip poplar' is Liriodendron tulipifera, a very large tree in the Magnolia family. It is fairly similar to 'true' Poplar, but a bit softer and usually very straight-grained and stable, which is something you can't always say about poplar. It is one of the preferred 'secondary' woods in Nth American cabinetmaking....

I've checked Masters before and forgot about that. I found their dressed timber expensive so have never gone back. Their red oak is just gum isn't it.
