Wow thankyou for the quick reply.
You were bang on the money a smidge of wd40 and a little love tap with the persuader and the flywheel poped right off 👍
The end cap also just came right out.
The pin holding the spring was a bit more stubborn but came out eventually.
Now it's time to get nice and dirty cleaning and grinding. Yay!

Glad I could help. Hopefully you can resolve your access issues and upload some photos of yours as well.

    Enjoy the restoration

Well it seems that as long as I use my PC and don't try to do anything through the taptalk app (that thinks I really am banned) everything appears to work so here goes with a few pictures!

    And some progress

Hope I remember where these all came from

For some reason the pictures are getting turned around when uploading to this post...
I will update as I progress.

This will clean up nicely. Enjoy the process and keep track of these small bearing balls. I was so nervous to loose some, that I kept extra care of them....

Looking forward to the finished fotos

Default Missing Cap on IXION Bench Drill

    Hello Cklett,

I love the work you did on your IXION Bench Drill and the detailed descriptions and pictures you shared.
Hope you are well on those troubled times.

I have too an IXION bench drill looking exactly the same as yours.

I have cleaned it and started re-assembling it but I noticed that mine came without the end cap that is supposed to be screwed into the shaft of the fly wheel .

    1. Hope it's not too much to ask but could you post a picture of the end cap dismantled so I can see both the thread and its the thickness of the cap ?
    2. Does the ring holded by the pin touches the inner top of the cap ?
    3. Do you have any idea how can I procure such cap or any recommendation how to make one ?

    Thanks in advance ,
    With best regards,
    Nori

    Hi Nori,
Thanks. All well. It's a very nice little machine and I really like using it. I still need to sort out my base. It flexes a bit too much. But I do get some good results from it.

Anyway, I shall take it apart when I get a chance this week and try to answer your questions as good as possible.

I don't think you will find a cap to buy. But I'll try to get the thread dimensions from mine and I am sure you can find someone who can make one. I don't think it's complicated.

I do believe the inner ring is stopped by the top cap. I have attached some pictures. Let me know if you need something more.

I also took the dimensions of the cap and made a small sketch. For the threat I am not sure. I don't have a pitch gauge, but from the measurement it looks to me like a 7/8-27 UNS.

    Hope that helps.

I forgot to include in the sketch that the inside hole is about 20mm deep.

Thank you very very much for the detailed instructions / Restauration of this amazing vintage drill press.

I've got one laying around in my "to restore" pile of old heavy iron tools for several years, and last week I finally took it apart to get in in working order.

I found the drill press in a scrap yard some years ago, partially mounted together, and with loose pieces in a plastic bag, but seemingly complete.

Never understood how I could secure the shaft, to prevent it from falling out when reaching it lowest point, but thanks to this detailed instructions, I got it working since last night.

Only thing to do, is fixing the chuck, from which I have 2 somehow the same types, but the springs are missing, and the 3 hard metal Jaws are in very very poor condition.

I am trying to figure out how to post pictures with this message, to show the world my drill press.

Excuse me if I typed some wrong words, as my native language isn't English.

The springs were also a bit of a challenge. I found some at our local hardware store which some how work. It's a matter of trial and error.

Good luck and looking forward to see some pictures.

Having had my Ixion in storage, I have unfortunately reached the stage where restoration isn't going to happen. Apart from some surface corrosion it is as it was when this post started so I will put it up in the for sale section should anyone be looking for an interesting and functional tool.
    Cheers
