Default Japanese chisels - ferrule question

    Hey all,
The inside of Japanese chisel ferrules are beveled. Does the wider end go on up or down on the handle top end? Miñe handles are nicely mushroomed, id have to saw the mushroom off to get the ferrule off to inspect it and i don't want to do that.
    Any advice appreciated, thanks
    Cheers,
    Clinton

Hope these are clear and understandable.
Was given this with a Japanese plane making class.
Wider part at top to act as wedge to hold on hoop.
Small taper on bottom for smooth entry.
Shave, file, compress with hammer till nice fit.
    Place hoop.
    Mushroom.
    Satisfaction
that reminds me, I have to set the hoop on my chisels one day.

Wide end towards the blade. This prevents the hoop digging into the handle and causing splitting.
