Group Jet Clamp Order - WA
This thread has come about as a result of a discussion here. This is the deal. I am looking at trying to get enough interest to buy 20 x 50 inch Jet clamps direct from Timberline tools in the US. The cost is US$50 per clamp, so for the sake of the exercise I will be saying AU$55 with any difference being sorted out when you pick them up. The clamps will be shipped via Estesexpress, as it is the cheapest option by a long shot, I am assuming this will be sea freight so it won't happen overnight.
If you are interested, this is how it goes, reply to this thread with how many 50inch clamps you would be interested in at this price. Once I have enough numbers I will PM everyone my bank details and you will need to pay upfront before the order is processed. I am more than happy to give people my contact details and address for piece of mind but here is the catch. I will pay for the order via Visa and reply to queries about freight tracking where I can, however, if the clamps do not show up and we get screwed somehow, it will be exactly that, WE will get screwed not me. I don't have the money to front the whole operation so if you want in you will have to share that risk with me.
Here is hoping we can pull this off, there is a picture of the clamps on the thread I linked to above.
Cheers,
Mike

Surely someone else wants some, it is not necessary to need them.

Someone please call a local store and get the aus price for these clamps. I think we can save heaps by making an overseas bulk buy.

I will try and drop by the Jet distributer this week and get a price, however a search of Australian tool sellers has not turned up any reference at all to Jet clamps let alone a price. It was interesting to see the woodwhisperers comparison on them and the besseys, in the last shot at thge end of the videos it shows them side by side and the Jets are alot larger.

Investigations during the last bessey group-buy showed that Jet wasn't bringing these into Australia (yet?). AFAIK, you simply can't buy them here at all...

Ok, my money was refunded from the other clamps purchase, so I am ready to go.
Come on guys, think of the boasting rights that go with these cool clamps. No-one else in Australia has them. This video rates them better than Besseys, for a number of reasons, including the fact that they have a scale inscribed on the sides (useful!). And this way you get them for about half the price of a similar size Bessey clamp.
Have to make a decision by Friday.....

I've emailed timberline to make sure we have to buy 20 before getting the cheaper shipping option. They may be flexible.

I have also emailed them to find out how much the screw in bench dogs and mounting blocks are as they do not come with the clamps.
From memory of my late night playing with the shipping costs we can get the cheaper shipping on less numbers but it is the economy of scales thing where the shipping spread over 20 clamps makes it $10 per clamp cheaper than spreading the shipping across 10 clamps.
I will start convincing LOML that it is a good idea for me to buy 16 and onsell them for a profit om ebay if we have no more takers - no promises though

The video is v.interesting and the Jet clamps look great, interesting that the guys in the USA rate them above Bessey and Jorgensen. The size of the jaw faces and the rules etched on the bars is a plus over the Bessey version and I also like the idea of the bench dogs which fit into the jaws so the clamps can be fixed upright to your bench.
Is anyone thinking of organising an East Coast order for those of us who missed out on the great Bessey clamp buy of '07 (or who just want more clamps )?
