    Hi Ian,

    Long time no speak mate.

Yes it will interesting to see the LN and LV compared. I do like how the LV's mouth can easily be adjusted, but the classic look of the LN is very nice.

Slightly OT, but yesterday I received my LV BU Jointer. In the same delivery was a Cap Iron to go in my Stanley #8, which also has a Harold & Saxon HSS blade.

I have a piece of highly figured Tallowood which has previously defeated the two HNT planes I used on it (although they prolly need a bit of sharpening). I put the Stanley #8 over the TW, and it tore out pretty badly, as expected. Then the new BU Jointer - what a difference - straight out of the box! Full width shavings straight off, and about 5% of the tear out.

    Hi -

The adjustable mouth is really there should you chose to use the plane as a skew blade jointer...We've also put a couple of tapped holes in the plane "bottom" (not the face with the blade!) - which will let you attach a fence to the plane should you choose.

For shooting bord use, the tapped holes can also be used to attach the plane to a sled (or base)...

    Just keeping your options open....

    Cheers -

    Rob

OK Rob, thanks for the shooting plane and all, but where's my compass plane???? Or is it being evaluated by Derek even as we speak???

Congrats on the PM-V11 chisels by the way - spectacularly good IMHO.

    Hi,

I believe Tom's working on that one, so we're staying away from it....

Lot's of other tools on the go though....!

    Cheers,

    Rob

So...another few years wait for the compass plane then... I think Tom's been working on it for quite a while now !

As for new Veritas tools, we get regular updates from our network of spies stationed around Derek's workshop, equipped with long telephoto lenses ! We should set up a "Veritas Rumours" site (along the lines of Nikon Rumours), featuring blurry photos of prototype products and fake photoshopped images of new planes.

The 2 most valuable tools I own for getting accurate cuts are my marking knife and my shoot board. I will certainly be getting one.

Here are a few sneaky shots ...

It looks even better in person where you can appreciate the lines. Works pretty well too!

    More later ..

Phwoar - look at the tail on that !

I love the fact that Veritas use wind tunnel testing as part of the design process for their planes. Well-made, functional, and with the lowest drag coefficient in the industry !

Thanks for posting the pics. I note that the plane doesn't appear on the "New Items" section of the Lee Valley webpage yet, so we may still have to wait a while for availability?

    Cheers

How good is that!! Thanks for sharing Derek.

John - I read that they will be available at the end of August/September. Derek or Rob can probably correct me?

Wow. No shuting board planes made from 1943 to 2012 - and then within one year we'll have a choice of two (or three) models
