Sounds like very good saving.
What about multiple items, is that $50 per each item? How long is shipping time for Priority mail?
The USA has a 50/50 chance of going into recession by the end of the year I hear this combined with strong Australian dollar means that it could even cheaper as the AU dollar possible overtakes the US dollar.

thumbsucker,
It is based upon the weight of the items for USPS Priority Mail. You can calculate postage costs on the USPS web site.
I'm not waiting for the AUD to go much higher, already at an excellent rate ~$0.89AUD = $1USD. Although, the CPI for next quarter is reviewed tomorrow, with an expected 0.8% increase, which may increase the value of the AUD.

Delivery: Although it seems to vary, I have had some items through ebay on Priority mail taking about 7 to 11 days.
On the question of multiple items, the plane I am ordering is about 3kgs. so at that weight there may be little, if any, difference in freightage cost. Whereas, smaller article weighing less, and bundled together would probably be less - maybe, but I am guessing. They do answer promptly, so you should email first and get an approximate cost.
I was reading an article where the giant Caterpillar farming and earthmoving company claimed the US was entering into a recession or in recession. Which follows on the heels of similar warnings from the IMF. The US has the worlds biggest debt, so large in fact, that it is unparalleled in history. Requiring multi-billions of speculative finance to come into the US every day. This inflow actually keeps the US afloat; the gurus of finance live in terror of this spec money fleeing elsewhere, into another currency or foreign stocks. Anyway the point is, it is more likely ordering goods from the US will be cheaper. Many would remember, in the sixties and seventies the US dollar was hovering around 60 - 66cents Aust.

I have to agree here I bought a skew block plane L-N 140 at the MELBOURNE WW show and the with the considerate reduction in price given saved on probably buying it thru the States with postage .
Markedly LN are still establishing a very good presence here and I have had some savings with them with purchases that I feel could have cost me a fair bit more.
I also bought a couple of "SHAPTON" glass honing stones a 1000(14.50)micron and an 8000(1.84) micron one as I am intrigued as to how they will fare out in the sharpening scenario.

I just feel that they reward folk that come back to them time and again!
LN rocks ... and its good to have them here in OZ

John
re the Shapton stones - you need to get one between the 1000 and 8000, such as a 5000. The jump is otherwise too large and will create unnecessary wear.
I have the Professional versions, 1000/5000/8000/12000
Great stones!

Derek I thought that would the way to go and I will have to go for an intermediate stone as was also suggested by the guy's at LN ,if it was'nt for all the weight I was adding to my suitcase over there I may have spent more on other necessary items particularly at the LN stand.
Question do you use their lapping system with the stones?

Hi John
I have heard very good things about the Shapton lapping stone - but it was too expensive for me. Add shipping costs from the USA as well ..
What I use is a 10" DMT Extra Coarse diamond stone. This does a great job, is easy to keep clean, and was much less expensive. It is flat (flat enough for all except the most obsessive, and we are talking ulta minute amounts - I can't find any deviations on mine).
I purchased the DMT (it is a Coarse/Extra Coarse duostone) on eBay (USA). DMT have a seller there (i.e. new stones), and the total cost including shipping to Australia is about half price.
I reserve the Extra Coarse side for flattening waterstones only. The Coarse side is for thin blades that would otherwise tear up the softer surfaces of a waterstone.
