Default Lie-Nielsen 25th anniversary bronze 4-1/2 on eBay

You can still buy one of these directly from Lie-Nielsen. They haven't yet sold all of the 500 they are going to make. Surprisingly, there is already one for sale on eBay.

I would have thought holding onto it for a while, at least until Lie-Nielsen have sold all 500, would be more profitable.
    Regards,
    Ian.

With over 7 days still to go, the plane has already reached the price for which you can still buy one direct from Lie-Nielsen (US$400).

    Not me!

I like their planes, but wouldn't pay more for a signature version. It's a tool not a collector's item in my view...

The one on eBay ended up going for US$506.11, or about AUS$680.00.

I'm only guessing here, but I can think of four reasons.

    1. The purchaser really wanted No. 24 of the 500 planes on offer.

    2. The seller suggests that if you ordered one directly from Lie-Nielsen now you probably wouldn't get it in time for Christmas. Maybe he/she was prepared to pay an extra US$106.11 in order to get one of the planes in time for it to be a Christmas present.

    3. The purchaser thinks it would be a good investment and that the price will continue to climb if they hold onto it for a while.

    4. The purchaser is someone of questionable intelligence who didn't realise you can still buy them directly from Lie-Nielsen for US$400.00.
    Regards,
    Ian.

I will lay money that these planes will be selling for double in 2 years and double that in 5 years.

This is a Limited Edition and that is the basis for a collectable (supply verses demand). I suspect that this #4 1/2 will become another LN bronze #9, which ceased production (moving to an iron version) because it was difficult to manufacture. What does a bronze #9 go for these days? I don't know but I'm sure it is several times its original price.

    Regards from Perth

First thing I did with mine was drill a hole in it so I can hang it over the bench.... think I drilled it off centre though - had to drill another hole to get it to hang straight.
