Lie Nielsen Boggs Spokeshave.
Hi,
Looking into getting a Boggs Spokeshave. Have done a little bit of reading, seems they are more dedicated to finishing as opposed to the grunt work. I have an old Stanley which will do the majority of the rough stuff [laminations, so getting rid of excess glue etc].
Anyone on here own one? What is it like and how did it go?
I have used Veritas spokeshaves prior, was not the comfiest fit in my hands.
Cheers

Hi Rhys
Sorry can't help with personal experience as I don't own a Boggs, however, the following links might help
the Schwarz 1 Chairmaking Tools by Christopher Schwarz
the Schwarz 2 Metal-bodied Spokeshaves - Popular Woodworking Magazine
and then there is wood Wooden Spokeshave
One consideration is the width of the shave's blade
for some tasks I find the narrow blade of the LN Preston copy more suited than the wider Veritas shaveregards from Alberta, Canada

I have the Boggs (three). They are beautifully balanced, easy to use, and comfortable. The mouth is quite tight so they do not hog waste - better suited to fine work. The HNT Gordons (I have the original set) are better with interlocked and hard woods, but are larger and feel more bulky. The only Veritas I have is the LA, and this is the best choice for end grain, less ideal on face grain.
