Lie Nielsen Cabinet Maker's Scraper
Hi everyone,
Am very seriously considering buying one of the Lie-nielsen Cabinet Maker's Scraper Planes. This is a rather large investment for me, and whenever I spend on any tool I kinda like to be sure: And I trust you guys and girls! Anyone used/own one?
First of all I'll tell you a few things that might be important.
I own a Stanley #80, and since I got that I have wanted a scraper plane that can get right up close to a job. (with the blade coming out to the side of the body, I mean) I honestly reckon that 50% of the time I need a scraper I can't use my #80 because of its width, plus I just don't think they're all that great(chatter).
My biggest worry is the lack of control with this plane. I'm worried about two things in particular though-
1) The fact that you don't have an adjusting screw to turn the centre of the blade slightly down (and edges slightly up to stop them digging in)
&
The blade angle not being adjustable.
I know I like to change the angle I use with my hand scraper, but don't know if this will be a massive issue.
The main reason I would choose it is because the blade comes out to the body- But will it become a hinderance?
Anyway, anyone got any advice, thoughts? Better ideas for Alternatives??
Much love and thanks in advance,
Dane Maurer
