Thanks Pac man. We need MORE of these in depth, nuanced "how to" stories. I shudder to think of people using a knife or sander to sharp a pencil.

This is something that has been needed for a long time. I look forward to others of the same ilk. I have great problems in tuning my workshop broom.

Actually, I would be very interested in how the plane performs with different graphite hardness pencils. Anyone have the time to do this?

...the cnc sharpening method is nice and precise, but for this ol' chippy I prefer to have this in my nail bag

No-one has mentioned bevel up versus bevel down in this specialist area yet.

I'm not sure that he is going to achieve an optimum sharpening angle on that pencil either, given the setting of the block planes' throat.
TTLearning to make big bits of wood smaller......
