Sheddie, I've been burnt badly by e-bay in the past, and now won't touch it with a barge pole. Instead you'll more likely find me lurking and loitering with intent around garage sales, flea markets and junk shops: a rodent's natural habitat. Also, I'm way too much of a Scottish Jew to ever consider a bidding war: the "bargains" I'm more likely to dive my short arms into my very deep pockets are as likely as not to be the items nobody else wants, like the Stanley Bedrock plane I picked up the other day for a Fiver with (a) half a Record Stay-set cap iron and (b) a lovely, convenient hanging hole drilled through the toe casting!

Hey Apricot,
With bidding up to $62.71 I bet you're glad you put the chisel on eBay and didn't take Harry72's offer of $15.00. You'll be able to buy a couple of planes with the proceeds.
Regards,
Mirboo.

Man, this is turning into a regular charity auction!
All proceeds are going to hurricane victims, right?
I mean, it must have gotten quite windy up there at Kyogle, what with the jumper you're wearing ...
GW
P.S. Make mental note to self: if I ever sell anything on eBay, bait everyone else here first!Where you see a tree, I see 3 cubic metres of timber, milled and dressed.

I think I WILL let it go. The guy bidding me up looks like a blade fetishist. He's even bought a set of Samuri swords  . Don't wanna a cross him.

It is in good nick, but I'd never pay that for a chisel. Each to their own.
I wonder if Harry's feeling a little cheated. I did offer $25.
And yes, GW, it was bit chilli that day. .... Makes me wonder, did the baiting help ? or....is the chisel really worth that . and....was it unethical of me to advertise like I did? ....uno, I was just having a little fun.
Must remember, to ask the winner tomorrow if he was led to the chisel through this forum or not.

Tripper,
Sounds similar to when SWMBO put my old mobile phone on epay when they had one of their no reserve, no auction cost deals. We thought the $30 +p&p would be great. Ended up with $85 no including postage. I was ecstatic!!
Good Luck with the auction!Have a nice day - Cheers

If you follow the old maxim of "they don't make 'em like the used to" as I do then your chisel is worth what you get for it. If you'd offered it to me for 25 bucks I'd have felt mean and given you 50 bucks -probably . The high bidder buys lots of old chisels of no particular brand and obviously feels the same.
Its the same with the planes I buy. I've looked at the modern planes and chisels and as far as I'm concerned unless you go for the high stuff like LN, or HNT, or whoever the best buys are the old tools. IMHO.And anyway, it's my money though I reckon I'll let the 2" go, unfortunately. If nothing else I mforced the price up. Watchugonna buy with your new found wealth.
CheersIf you never made a mistake, you never made anything!

Sheddy. Thanks for your interest in the chisel. I don't know what I'll buy with it yet. Got to get through the bank account without the wife noticing. yeh, I'm wipped. Joint account, and she like controlling it, which in general is fine, cause I don't like organising it......but, it means I can't do anything without her noticing and the third degree ! ..... Your not gonna buy another tool are you ! she'll say. ....blah, blah-blah,bbbbbb-blah. yeh, up yours lady. Don't get me wrong, I love her, but jeeeesus. I'm raving. Need to sleep. Night.

Well done, Jake.
I haven't even seen a Berg go for this price!
I'm sure your wife will enjoy the new dress you're buying for her.
