Looking for planes, chisels & spokeshaves to restore
Hi
I've taken a liking to tool restore work so I'm always happy to put in the hard yards restoring planes, spokeshaves and chisels that are too much effort for you but too good to throw out, so if you have any you decide you don't want, flick them my way .
They can either be sent back cleaned up for a small charge + postage or if you truly don't want them, I'm sure I can find space for a few more of either on my own shelves!
***EDIT***
I had a thought, harmful at my age I know...if anyone responds and I end up with any extras they will get a cleanup and be offered to other beginners for the price of postage. Idea inspired by Ern's recent generosity
Cheers
Andrew

An interesting offer. I doubt you'll be able to overcome the "one-day" factor of the serious tool-hoarder .
We don't know how lucky we are......

Hence the offer to do the work and send it back for a small fee...the small fee then gets used for both cleaning supplies and any leftover goes towards my own tool addictions
Plus, there's something awesome about taking something most people would throw out and making it beautiful again

I think it's a dangerous offer you're making, Andrew - I can think of a number of tools I could send you that need a fair bit of work, so you might need to think about what you consider a 'small fee'!
Now, there's the #5 I just brought back from the UK, not to mention the ugly brass thing, and a square which might or might not be Ward, plus a dozen or so chisels, and numerous saws, and since you mention spokeshaves, I've got a couple of those too....Cheers, Richard

Well I'm happy to negotiate a bit of hard yakka in exchange for a spokeshave or three not making it's way back to you...or that square, it'd sit nicely with the mitre square and bevel already on my tool wall
I like the restore work, I seem to be getting quite decent at it with some tips from the guys and gals around here, and it's potentially a way for me to acquire some decent tools of my own in the process.
Not saying I can bring stuff back to original condition, but certainly I can make something look like it belongs in a rack rather than at the tip!. I have a fair bit of experience with guitar restorations and there's actually a lot of similarities between them and certain tools. I wouldn't have a go at anything too special, but for your everyday Stanley's etc I think I can get them at least cleaner!

Oh and ScribbyGum's method will work wonders on that old #5. I tried it on Dad's old #4 and the results are stunning. Shame that one is going home now!. Will post before and afters when I get the batteries charged
