Been Lurking
Hello Everyone,
My name is Ron Brese and I've been lurking on this forum for a while. Decided I might as well join the fun. Some of you may know of me. I'm a plane maker and have been making infill and some other configuration planes for some time now.
For my first post I thought I'd post some pics of a plane that I've just completed today. Thanks for looking.

Welcome Ron. I have indeed seen your work and this one looks as good as the others.
Always good to have another plane maker aboard. Those were the droids I was looking for.

Welcome Ron, yes, have seen your fine work as well. That is one special looking plane, nice and solid. What's the weight of it if you don't mind me asking? And also the timber used?

The Specs
The specs on the plane are as follows.
The sole is 8" (203mm) long and this plane uses a 1.875" (48mm) wide 0-1 iron pitched at 50 degrees.
This plane body is 1018 mild steel with a 360 alloy brass lever cap and knob seat. The wooden bits on this plane are from koa. First time I've used this timber in a plane. The body is assembled with an updated process that requires 20 threaded fasteners and 12 taper pins.
Mouth size presently is .003, I will probably open it up to .004.
Weight is 4 lbs. 1 oz., as of late I've grown fond of small smoothers.

Video Work
Jameel does great video work and he is always a pleasure to have in the shop. It would be nice if we didn't try to work each other into oblivion when he visits.

Geez, Ron - that shaving looks like it's less than 1/2 a thou thick - how can you expect to get any real work done like that!?
Superb job, and good to have another (serious!) toolmaker on the forum. I particularly like to see different approaches & methods of construction and you certainly fill those criteria. I would like to have seen a pic of the blade-bed & how it's fitted, but p'raps it's all on your blog - I'll go check it out.
Anyway, a big welcome to the forum, & look forward to your input in the future......
Cheers,IW

Ron
Simple and very well detailed plane. Love the nice crisp knurling. I would appreciate more detail on the construction and use of the taper pins & threaded connections, if possible.
Welcome & Regards

Thanks Ron I missed the link.
Those are very nice machines you have, that makes another addition to the covet list
Jameel and yourself, are obviously enjoying the time together, but don't burn each other out.
Are you still suppling the kits for the small smoothers I could not find pricing on your website ?
Regards

Kit Sales are still suspended
Unfortunately kit sales are still suspended and I don't have a real good idea when I'll be able to offer them again. I however still hope to re-introduce them at some point.

Sad
Its sad when the tool is more attractive than anything I would make with it.
