Marcou new plane at a great price
I've just purchased one of Philip Marcou's new wooden chamfer planes.
I've been waiting for some time for him to do a batch of his amazing metal chamfer planes but alas. It has not come to pass as yet.
I was delighted to hear from Philip that he as made several "more affordable wooden chamfer planes."
Here are some pics. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430305791.225368.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1430305844.777981.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1430305914.333919.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1430305960.520980.jpg
Mine arrives soon so I'll give a first hand account of how it goes shortly.
I have several of Philips planes and I'm confidant that this little tool will be every bit as good as the $3-4k larger planes he makes. At $120ish NZD this thing is an absolute bargain.
No affiliation other than being a very happy customer. Well, he is such a nice fellow that it's hard not to feel like a friend.
I'll follow up with a hands on report soon.Last edited by kevjed; 29th April 2015 at 10:21 PM. Reason: errors

I say! There's a spectacular difference in price to the brass jobbie.
Wonder if he could do a blade that will make a 5mm radius roundover?

Yes indeed. I will have a good hard look at the potential for modified blades too. Perhaps we could talk him into a little add on pack? 3,5,6,8 mm
He is looking at making these planes as a staple to keep things ticking over.

There's good potential for him to use some gorgeous timbers too.....

Yes, Philip makes no bones about his plane being firmly based around a Japanese plane that he saw. The original brass and steel ones he made are amazing. The wooden ones look more like the original they are based on.
He is hoping these smallish ones will take off as a regular line.

There is a comparison between the brass Marcou chamfer plane and wooden Japanese original here: http://blog.lostartpress.com/2013/06...ou-handplanes/
