Rust converter works too. A little of the liquid that settles out on top when the can has been on the shelf a while. I did an etch on a saw I made using a rubber stamp.

Back in 2009 I did it on some saw steel.
Acid etch on saw blade
Used my gold testing acid...aqua regia.
