Default Mathieson hand planes, what do the numbers mean?

I have been lucky enough to score some old Mathieson wooden handplanes.

I am trying to understand the numbering system, can someone help out? or is there a book/website i can reference similar to blood&gores?

    thanks

It depends a bit on what profile they are. Many refer to the width of the profile however hollows and rounds have a numbering system described here.

    joez,
you will need a copy of the Mathieson catalogue, the planes numbers are reference numbers.
I can scan some more for you if like, and email a higher resolution.
    Regards,
    Peter

    Thanks everyone!

I had another quick look at them, there appears to be a few side beads, and some type of ogee moulding in various widths. I'll give a light clean and postup some pics.

Lightwood i'll shoot you a pm with my email address, I think the catalogue will really help me out.

Lightwood, would you mind sharing the whole catalogue with the world? If you could send me the images of the pages I'll be happy to OCR them and combine to a PDF file. I will need them at 300DPI for OCR and could do a plain PDF with lower resolution.

    javali,
I have 3 original Mathieson catalogues, two copies of the 8th edition 1899, one has pages so brittle they crack and fall out and the other has a spine that is weak and tearing easily.
I also have a ninth edition 1933...like new.
The 1899 cat has about 270 pages, and the 1933 has 55 pages.
That's a little too much for me to scan. There are 18 pages in the wooden hand plane section of the 1899 cat.
I also have Ken Turner's reprint of the 1899 cat, just the woodwork tools, and that is 140 pages. I usually consult that one to preserve the originals. I'm pretty certain there are no more of those still available unless you find one second hand.
At Ken Turner's auction earlier this year, an original, average quality 1899 cat sold for about $300.00.
    Regards,
    Peter

I will get the plane pages scanned over the weekend, and uploaded onto my web-page, and post a link to them here.

    joez,
    here we go....
There are 20 pages of planes in the 1899 catalogue, each opening has two pages that are numbered left and right page with the same number.
I have called them pg# and pg#a respectively.
    Index of /temp/math_cat_planes
