Paul your date code in post #6 is correct. thats sort of code is in many of the McPhersons catalogues.

Thats a rare catalogue, never seen that one, and I have a few would be great to get better images of it for the record. The older ones don't turn up very often and many just got thrown out when not needed anymore or became outdated.

there were a few covers of Mcphersons catalogues posted a few years back and was thinking that your catalogue was part of a series similar to one I posted - post #14 in this thread McPherson's Catalogue Covers by Date. - actually the first post of a catalogue in that thread looks like yours... with the same date code

however it looks to be different but thats seems to be how McPersons did things.

    Cheers

    Steve

Macpherson's appear to have produced several catalogues at the same time for different disciplines. This link references some of them, although they are from later periods:

A closer look at the catalogue showed an entry for a Simonds Docking saw. The handle did not look familiar and I thought it might be the timber handled version (they were normally made from malleable iron) as such a handle was available, although I have not knowingly seen one. The metal handles were typically held on with just two rivets.

A close up view was interesting:

Henry Disston and Sons! Plus the handle still looks distinctly odd.

I just came across this thread. It appears that McPherson's are now a health & beauty company (if I found the right one). Their about page says they were founded in 1860 so I'm guessing its the right one as it matches. What a change in direction. Probably a sensible one considering how many of the old tool sellers are left.
