Mini planes for Ian.

We might need a familiar object to reference the size. A coke canor a box of matches perhaps if you don't have one of Ian's coins to hand?
They look interesting.

Thanks Martin, as Paul said, it's hard to judge actual size without a reference, but I can get an idea as I've handled examples of the longer wooden plane in the picture. I think the little violin plane is a bit smaller than mine, but they'd be pretty close:

While a coin helps in the country of origin, I'm not sure how well it travels. Our 20c coin is approximately 28.5mm diameter according to my digital calipers - is that about the same as your 20p coin?
That little plane was made out of curiosity & to test some new jewellers' saw blades. I didn't expect it to be of much use, to be honest, since I'm not into musical instruments, but I've been surprised at how many times I've pulled it out & how well it does its job:

(but then I have been working on quite a bit of "small stuff" of late)....
Cheers,IW

Hi Martin;
if you have an old 10p coin (or pre-decimal Florin) they are identical in size to the Aus 20c coin that Ian uses to show scale.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.
