Default Modern use for old fashioned plane

Hi all. Recently I had to replace some termite damaged hardwood flooring (and joists) for a client. Wanting to make the repairs somewhat indistinguishable from the original work meant a lot of fitting new boards between (and to) the old ones.Whilst 108mm wide tas oak (or should we call it mountain ash!!) are still avaiable the tongue and groove profile has changed somewhat. Tasks included ripping off the lower section of groove as required and ripping off the lower section of the tongue. Both operations needed to be cleaned up and my tool of choice - a 5/8" wooden skewed rabbet plane. As anticipated it was perfect for the job and to my surprise received overwhelming praise from my work colleague, who up to this point has been somewhat dismissive of my hand tool journey - "Oh you got another plane/saw/whatever, what a waste of money". I must confess to a certain amount of smugness at my vindication , now I just have to win over my wife .

    MA,

I would call that a Win Win, make sure “Work colleague” is made to beg when he suddenly needs the Plane.

As for helping with the Wife issue, sorry I’m suddenly busy[emoji6].

    Cheers Matt.

Thanks Matt, Ian and P. Just for Mike (and any others of course) here are a couple of photos

Had to trim the wedge a little and reset the skew angle on the blade but it works really well. And the fleck is just beautiful. Unlike my hands, which just unloaded a trailer full of firewood.
