I cant get every sceric out of the grain but the residue adds a little...............
The other reason for my rant is to see if anyone can rummage their shed and help with some nice new proper unplated slotted steel woodscrews to refix the hinges & clasps. The originals are a bit sprained now.
    The sizes are i think 5G x 3/4" 8G x 3/4" and 10Gx 7/8". I need about 6 of the 5G, 12 of 8G & 4 of the 10G ...................................or a good supplier if anyone knows.
    cheers for any help

Lovely chest (said the bishop to the actress) I'll have a look later on in the week for you, I've been saving slotted screws for the past 5 or so years from all the wrecks I pick up during hard rubbish week. will pm you if I can find some.
Ps. The Orange handled PVC pipe/lending saw and its mate looks a little out of place, you'd better spend $5/10 at the local flea market this weekend and get a couple of wooden handled fixers for aesthetic reasons
    cheers

I have had the 'flu for the last couple of weeks so the markets were something of a non-event for me.
Went today and picked up something I should have bought 40 years ago.
I have got by with all sorts of things on the end of the string from hammer to odd bolt.
    Not any more.
Now I have a u-beaut plumb bob in its own leather belt case that should serve the purpose admirably.
I have a chookhouse mark III to build, and a deck to construct in the next twelve months - so this little number will get a workout.
$20 from my favourite tool vendor at the markets.

    G'day Deesinister,

I'm assuming the handle is black plastic? If so, it looks very much like the set of rough Stanleys I bought at Bunnies as my knock-abouts.

    I think Waldo is right.
The bevel pattern is classic Stanley.
There were a range of these made in England from memory which weren't half bad chisels.

Here's my show 'n' tell for the week.

Finally got out of the house after a few full weekends. Went to take my daughter to the local markets which are quite small and not much chop and decided to drive across the city to a larger markets to test my luck. 8 am had just ticked over when we left so I didn't have much confidence in finding anything but any Daddy/Daughter time is good.

Anway, got to the Chandler markets, walked through the gate and I could immediatly smell it. Looked to my right and there it was. First find of the day on the first stall. A nice little Record #4. $25 sticker on the tote, took it away for $20. Was very happy as my current user isn't the best and this will do quite nicely. The rest of the markets didn't hold much for me but I didn't mind. Just enjoyed the rest of the time showing my daughter all the sights.

Gave it a quick polish up tonight and it's come up quite well.

    Beautiful job Denim.
Even the chess board looks better in the second pic.
Those Record planes gave very good service.
Many people prefer them to Stanley.
    Nice pick-up.

    haha... very good.

Thanks guys. The plane doesn't seem to have had much use at all so I'll have to still pull it apart tune it.

    Christos,
A quick polish = about an hours clean and didn't get a chance to put it on the buffing wheel.
