Can't offer anything on what a "double contraction" rule would be used for; I only ever encountered the normal type and even then rarely. But for casting a pattern to make ongoing multiple patterns for castings using the Lost Wax process the proposed idea makes sense.
My primary trade was as an Artificer who specialised in the "Metal Work" sub-specialisation which included sheet-metalwork; we were nicknamed "Tin Bashers"
And just for Verawood; Contraction Rule:

Quick quote from ‘The Patternmakers Guide’ by the American Foundrymans Association Inc.
’Double shrink is used when a master pattern is required to produce production metal patterns or a match plate; the first shrink is between master and permanent pattern; the second appears between pattern and casting.
I don’t have photos of the production plate, back in the day we just made stuff, didn’t post it everywhere. This is just junk on a shelf in the shed.Theres more stuff in the Foundry thread on the metal forum re Patternmaking etc.
The end castings were treads in bronze for the restoration of the Ena steam yacht.
As you can see in the photos the master is in wood painted grey.
The production is in Aluminium and there was 6 on a plate with runners etc for use on a jolt squeeze machine or similar.
