Mystery Titan Chisel
Some help please from the gurus of all things TITAN.
I found this chisel at a market too many moons ago to remember exactly when, and I have seen a lot of Titans since, but never another like this one.
I have consulted Peter Robinson's Pages:
A Titan Chisel and Gouge Index
....and I have either missed it, or it doesn't exist there.
How to describe it - well it is a firmer with a bevelled edge, but a very deep bevelled edge, and a very thick blade.
For reference it is a 1/4 inch chisel.
Here is Peter Robinson's listing of Titan chisels:

Have a look at the pictures and see what you think.
Thanks in advance
Tom

It's early in the morning, Tom, but I can't see what is unique about it? I use Dick Lynch's "Collecting Titan Chisels" as my reference & just going by the pictures it appears to me to be a "106", the BE version of their registered firmer. But as I said, I'm probably missing something.....
Cheers,IW

Tom, I've had a couple of dozen or more Titans through my hands over the last 20 years, not enough for me to say "I've seen them all" by a very long shot, but enough to know there can be a bit of variation within each type. It is fairly straightforward (going by Dick's book) to sort the types if they are not too used-up & still have their factory-fitted handles, but it gets a little more tricky when there is only half the blade left and/or handles have been replaced, as they so often were. Dick says it's usually pretty easy to tell "light" from "heavy" when you have both types of a similar size in your hand, but I've had a couple of (well-used) smaller sizes that I couldn't decide if they were a heavy type from the "light" side of the bell-curve, or a light "heavy" type. Once you get into the wider sizes, it seems to be more obvious which is which...
Cheers,
