Nice Lady, even nicer surprise
Next door neighbour knocked ob the door this morning and handed me this.
The story as it goes...
He knows I'm into woodwork and asked if I vould help and elderly lady that has a jamming door. He has known her ever since he and his wife moved here (30+ years).
Got off early on friday so down I go to look at this door. Only had to plane a bit of the hinge side, recut the hinges, give it a lick of paint and re-hang the door. Couple of hours tops. The eldely lady then pointed at the back door and said it's also jammed and could I have a look (she had been unable to open it for the last 5-6 years).
Managed to get the door opened and basically rebuilt the door frame, planed down the door and put it back. 5 hours later.
This is was she gave to me. It was her late husbands (10 years ago) and she basically has no one left.
Just rubbed the surface rust off (not that there was much) and gave it a wipe over.
Did a bit of work on the blade and gave it a sharpen.
Not in my wildest dreams did I think any one would give me a gift like that.
So here it is, a Stanley Bailey No 5. Made in England
Lovely lady...got plenty of coffee and real (home made) scones. I was in heaven (I love scones).

I thinks the scones may cause the push bike to get ridden even more. Home made jam and freshly whipped cream.......
No I don't do gardens but the guy down the road does and he knows about the scones (only cause I told him) and is now in envy. Might just have to send him down.

Damn, I'm jealous, not because you scored a really nice plane but because you got real scones with homemade jam and cream. Haven't had anything close since my Nan passed 10yrs ago
Cheers

My comment too. I think it is karma, one good turn deserving another. You are a good soul, Steve, and that lovely lady really appreciated your efforts, and life for her is now so much easier. Well done!!

Dengy

DJ, she is the person that all of us would have as a grand mother, grand aunty type...I was quite happy with only the scones.
Seanz, I think you'll have to find your own. (I can see it now an advert in the local paper - I work for scones)
Sorry Avery...ate them all before any one with a camera turned up. Was not going to share.
Yes Jill, I have made a nice friend.
I think she doesn't get out much since her husband passed away.
